Our commentary on Hyatt Centric Waikiki Beach COVID-19 Health & Safety Protocols

The protocols posted for Hyatt Centric Waikiki Beach on the Hawaii Tourism Authority website as of 1/27/2021 are 42 pages long.

  • The protocols mention “PPE materials readily available” and “Personal Protective Equipment available throughout the hotel” for workers.
  • The protocols include daily temperature checks for employees entering the building. However, they do not list anything about whether guests will be subject to any form of temperature testing at the hotel.
  • There are protocols about the steps the hotel will take if a guest receives a positive COVID-19 test result or has symptoms suggestive of COVID-19 at any time. However, there is no mention of contact tracing in these sections or anywhere else in the document. Guests and workers reading these protocols will be left with no information about whether the hotel will collect all of the information that would be needed to determine who a sick guest or worker was exposed to. They also will not know if the hotel will inform them if someone they were in contact with tests positive for COVID-19.
  • Protocols about cleaning and disinfecting high touch areas both in the public parts of the hotel and the back-of-house areas (work areas not readily accessible by the public) list areas that will be cleaned at least every two hours, among other measures.
  • Regarding responsibility to enforce the protocols, the document names an individual “Hygiene and Wellbeing Leader,” and states that “Their responsibilities include, among other things, to oversee, train, support and re-enforce Hyatt’s hygiene and wellbeing expectations in tandem with local ordinances.”

Check the HTA site to see if updated protocols are posted.

we wanted classifications in our department but management always decline because of budget but hotel is really busy. they don’t sanitize because they’re being overload with work for only one person. they can’t sanitize every hour because there are so many request to attend and to respond to.
