Planning to visit Hawaii? This website has information on Hawaii hotels’ COVID-19 health & safety protocols.

Our commentary on the Queen Kapiolani Hotel COVID-19 Health & Safety Protocols

The State of Hawaii issued an emergency proclamation on November 23, 2020 requiring hotels to publish their COVID-19 Health & Safety plans and submit it to the state’s Hawaii Tourism Authority (“HTA”). Below is our commentary on each hotel’s COVID-19 Health & Safety Plans they way they appear on the HTA website so that guests and hospitality workers have a better understanding of these plans.

As of 1/5/21, the HTA webpage did not list protocol documents for the Queen Kapiolani Hotel.

According to the Governor of Hawaii’s 15th Emergency Proclamation, which was issued on November 16, 2020:

“All hotel operators shall publish the COVID-19 Health and Safety Plans of each property they operate, including by making it available on their websites and by submitting it to the Hawaii Tourism Authority for posting on its website.”

Do you work at the HOTEL? Leave a review below. Based on your observations, has your employer followed COVID-19 health and safety protocols? (e.g. is hand sanitizer and personal protective equipment provided? How much training did you receive on these health and safety protocols?)

The quarantine floor has been eliminated after management promised it would remain as long there was a quarantine requirement…such disregard for the safety of the workers and guests.

Walked past the kitchen in the subcontracted restaurant on the 3rd floor (Deck Waikiki) to see NO MASKS on any of the kitchen staff …

Also NO MASKS on anyone lounging on the pool deck either…

Both of these things are listed on the hotel’s website as REQUIREMENTS but there is no enforcement…

The hotel has finally provided their Covid-19 protocols to the Hawaii Tourism Authority for uploading to their website…after reopening 4 months ago!

As of 2/05/2021 the hotel’s COVID-19 protocols are NOT listed on the Hawaii Tourism Authority as was required by the Governor’s proclamation on 11/16/2020. The hotel re-opened on 12/01/2020. The hotel has/does issue PPE to employees as well as provides hand sanitizers and disinfecting wipes.
There are minimal mask signs and NO social distancing signs. Mask wearing enforcement has been done more by employees than managers and in some areas not at all. Managers have also been seen wearing masks improperly under their chins or noses. The enhanced/increased cleaning that is stated on the website, especially at the pool, is not happening. If we’re not fully prepared for the first strains of COVID, how are we going to be prepared for the new more contagious ones??
    Training?? Ha!!
