Hyatt Regency Waikiki hotel still requires guests to request room cleaning. A room reservation at the hotel does not include daily housekeeping as an automatic service because of COVID policy.
A Hyatt Regency Waikiki housekeeper described what she found inside one of the hotel rooms she had to clean recently. She said she spent over an hour trying to clean the room as her job requires but was unable to finish her work on time because of stains in the bathroom, stains on the walls and bubble gum in the carpet.
At the end of her work day, she used her rights under her union-negotiated work rules to leave the room uncleaned because she couldn’t finish it within her regular shift time . Hotel workers have been asking hotel managers to bring back more workers from COVID furloughs and reinstate pre-pandemic daily housekeeping.
